Sawab Center aims to provide analysis and insights into the background and activities of terror outfits operating in the MENA region and beyond. ‘Sawab’ means the ‘right path’ in Arabic. Our mission is to combat the threat posed by extremist ideologies that try to distort the message of peace and tolerance, and misuse religion for their nefarious purposes. By observing the political, economic, social and security dimensions of extremism, we aim to understand the current and future states of extremist groups – their capabilities, intentions and objectives.
Based in Abu Dhabi, Sawab is a collaborative venture between the UAE and the US to counter the online messaging, propaganda and recruitment by the terrorist organizations. The Center supports global attempts to fight the spread of extremist thinking.
We are from the region and publish research on terror groups operating in the Middle East and North Africa. Our advocacy is in the public interest and helps policymakers in their efforts to fight extremism.
At Sawab we believe extremism impacts moderate, modern societies and through our work, we seek to promote a secure and prosperous future for people of all backgrounds. We seek to amplify the voices of moderation, which are the true representations of the faith and culture of the region. Our mission is to foster inclusivity, where there are opportunities for all and where there is acceptance of the other.
