Power of framing: How media coverage shapes impact of terrorism across languages, regions

How the media ‘frames’ terror attacks contributes to or mitigates the impact of terrorism. Terrorist groups rely on media coverage to amplify their message. We examined how terrorism is framed in three countries that have experienced a high number of attacks, and in three languages, to identify similarities and differences in framing. We found that media reporting that sensationalizes or promotes community division can amplify and extend terrorist threats.
